Fitness Isn’t All About Aerobics

Orangeville, ON (Jason Mead) You need to mix aerobics with muscle-building workouts several times a week to achieve a well-balanced fitness regimen.

Aerobics is known for its benefits. You strengthen your heart and your whole cardiovascular system when you exercise aerobically. Workouts that build muscle help the body function better and burn fat.

Muscle building workouts can either help you gain muscle mass or tone your existing muscles. Muscle building workouts with low reps and heavy weights are for bulking up. As you lift heavy weight, the fibers in your muscle swell, and you’ll see a noticeable increase in muscle mass under your skin. With high rep, low weight workouts, you tone the muscles and make them stronger without changing their size significantly. In order to sculpt their muscles and make them look more defined, women do toning workouts, and bodybuilders do bulking workouts.

People expect quick results when they start new muscle development workouts. If you’re slim to start with, it’s fine. However, if you have a high body fat to muscle ratio, you’ll need to do aerobic cardio exercises to burn off fat. To see the results you want, you’ll also have to do muscle-building workouts. Low fat diets with lots of lean proteins and low carbs can also help you lose fat and gain muscle.

Muscle building workouts also increase your body’s ability to burn fat. When you do regular fitness workouts that include muscle building, your muscles burn fat even when you’re not exercising. By doing aerobic exercise, you strengthen your heart and improve your cardiovascular system, which helps your muscles get blood. If you want to get rid of fat continuously, you need both aerobics and muscle building.

There’s a myth that working out builds muscle. You’re born with the most muscle fibers you’ll ever have. Muscle building workouts alter the appearance of muscle tissue by bulking it up and making the fibers bigger and more defined.
