Networking in Your Neighbourhood

Orangeville, ON (James Doan) Any business that you own will require some form of networking. Networking is one way to get your business name out there. These are individuals who may use your products at some point in the future. This may result in them referring your business to others. The goal of networking is to develop relationships with others. To find additional contacts in your network, you should speak with other business owners.

There are many different opportunities for networking available to you. Every club and association to which you belong will form part of your network. Whenever you come into contact with or speak to someone, they will become part of your network.

Create lasting impressions
By sharing what you are most knowledgeable about, you will be able to make an impact on those you meet. It may also be useful to discuss topics that are important to your business. When you are uncertain about a topic that is being discussed, ask questions. In this way, you will demonstrate that you are a participant in the discussion and that you remain interested in learning more. Simply listening to someone will keep you out of the conversation and will not leave a lasting impression on them.

Let your voice be heard

  • Join local chambers of commerce and local associations
  • Join the local PTA, the sports boards and
  • Join clubs that interest you

If you are unable to locate a club that interests you, consider creating one and building your network from there. It is your goal to increase awareness of yourself, of your business, and of the services you provide. It is imperative that you are proud of what you are doing even if you are selling online. By discussing it often, you will build a network of people who will come to you when they need your products or services.

It is important to maintain and set goals for yourself after you have built a good network. You need to maintain your goals after setting them. Try to meet one new person each week. Every week, contact one person you know who is not an existing client. By doing so, your business will grow. Let’s think about it this way. If you make five calls and only one results in a sale, that is one more sale than you had previously. Increase your company’s exposure, and use this to benefit your personal success.
